RTA help

created your RTA? great! confused what to do next? don't worry :)...
1. although you have added your RTA to the directory, you still may have to wait a while in order to get members. this way add the advertisement into your journal and promote-friendly communities! ask around!
2. this is up to you! this gives people the chance to see what the RTA may be like. important questions to involve in your application survey are such ones like, "how many hours are you online?" and "what do you have to offer to the RTA?", etc. it is important to inform them of the amount of email as some people may not realize this and then leave after they start receiving the email. the welcome email is very important in getting everyone together and to start sending emails & making friends. it is a good idea to include RTA information and rules again, just so the members get a chance to go over them for the second time. include ideas of email to send, the list to use and encourage everyone to introduce themselves: the best way to do this is usually through everyone sending an introduction in a new thread as this gives the rest of the members a chance to reply rather than all the introductions getting tied up together in the welcome email.

here's a quick guide what to do:
- create your RTA name, genre & rules
- think about what you'll send out into the RTA (activities? surveys? things to get people talking. people are going to be shy at first, you need to get them talking...)
- add your rta into the directory
- post it around & get members
- create the application
- wait for people to contact you about it
- send them the form
- wait for it back, check it, see if they are right for the RTA
- wait for enough people & then start it!

wait, i'm stuck on my app!
you should probably make it something like this:

name, age, location?:
why do you want to join the RTA?:
what are your interests?:
blahblahblah... try & make questions that these possible members will want to answer :)
BEFORE you give them the application, in the same email you should probably tell them what an RTA is... just in case they are confused! therefore, i would recommend your application looks something like THIS. < click that to see a sample application.

great! i have 15 members, now what?
1. MAKE SURE THEY ALL KNOW WHAT AN RTA IS!!!!
2. collect the memberlist together so it looks like this: emailaddress, emailaddress, emailaddress
3. send the welcome email. make sure in the welcome email you give everyone the memberlist & MAKE SURE YOU ADD YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON IT! :]

stuck?

just ask :] you need a lot of time! ask ANY questions if you are still needing help.

activity ideas

min. once a week:
1. send out randoms. try and make them longer than 10, but detailed, so 6 detailed is better than 20 not. basically make bullet points and list facts about your days. the more regular you send this, the better because then we know about you. try prioritize these rather than participating in an activity if you are busy.

once a fortnight:
1. update of your life if diary form, decorate with photos, etc. split into categories: friends, family, education/work, feelings, etc.

once a month:
1. (FOR PEOPLE THAT CAN SEND VIDEOS) document a day in your life, and limit this video to 5 minutes long. send it to the RTA.

2. (FOR PEOPLE THAT CAN SEND PHOTOS) document a day in your life through photos, from 20 to 150 photos. talk us through your day, story-tell it to us.

3. send out a 'bumper questions' email. this helps bring everyone together immensely. gather everyone's name in a list, and ask everyone 1-5 questions. these can't be random questions, you need to try and ask questions based on your knowledge about this person. if you feel you have gaps missing about them & aren't sure about something, you can ask here.

4. send out facts about yourself.

please try and send an update at least once a fortnight. if you're busy, that's fine of course, but eventually please try and come back with an update and tell us about your life. this is a big part of the RTA, to talk and share details about your life, so we can have a friendship and know about you. :)

about the RTA aspire

  • RTA stands for "Reply To All" which means you'll be replying to a whole group rather than 1-to-1
  • we communicate via email, and a lot of people make very close friendships that last years, and some even meet up offline over time.
  • the group has around 13 people in it, it may go up or down depending on people leaving or joining
  • you can expect and receive a lot of email in your inbox, it varies depending on how active it is. sometimes it can be up to 100 a week, or more. you are not required to reply to all of it, because that's just silly. by all means, you can! but i don't think it's possible, because of what applies to you & you have a comment for, and the time you have, etc.
  • imagine pen palling or a forum but over email, that's like an RTA :)
  • you will be "filtering" your email box, e.g you must have time to go through it and delete the emails you don't want to reply to and reply to the ones you like
  • please have the time for this, as well as the time to send email. it isn't difficult, all of us have lives and we still manage it as a hobbie.
  • it takes the whole group to make an RTA active so please try and make the effort to talk to people. if you are a good people-person, like to make conversations and are generally outgoing (although if you're the opposite, most people are outgoing online away) this may help.
  • you must be willing to send your own emails, updates, diary entries, posts of what interests you
    • you will be meeting people from all over the world
    •
    • there is an age range of 16-30.
    • we are willing to open up and be personal, like any sort of friends would. we expect the same from you :)
    • there will be fun things to do that i send out, questions, discussions, picture spams, inspirations and all sorts of other things but remember to send your own! :) we also have weekly activities.
    • no drama, arguments, etc. if you have a problem with someone, reply and sort it out, don't bring it into the whole RTA
    • most of all, we look forward to meeting you & hope you enjoy the rta if you join!
